Kamau was a gregarious youthful man who <\/span><\/span>owned a grocery shop that was well stocked. <\/span><\/span>While standing b<\/span><\/span>ehind the counter <\/span><\/span>serv<\/span><\/span>ing<\/span><\/span> his customers, <\/span><\/span> it was not unusual for Kamau to break into song, <\/span><\/span>a<\/span><\/span> cheeky smile <\/span><\/span>spread across <\/span><\/span>his face<\/span><\/span>. He was always well groomed <\/span><\/span>wearing<\/span><\/span> fashionable clothes and he was very fond of speaking English. I believe he was well read because he had humorous <\/span><\/span>Philosoph<\/span><\/span>ical<\/span><\/span> quotes<\/span><\/span> written all over his <\/span><\/span>green <\/span><\/span>Ford <\/span><\/span>Anglia<\/span><\/span> car that was always parked outside <\/span><\/span>his<\/span><\/span> shop. <\/span><\/span>Quotes like <\/span><\/span>“Talk well to your enemies, <\/span><\/span>remember you made them<\/span><\/span>“. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Kamau\u2019<\/span><\/span>s shop was popular<\/span><\/span> because <\/span><\/span>it w<\/span><\/span>as well stocked you could find almost <\/span><\/span>an<\/span><\/span>ything you needed. <\/span><\/span>He was the \u201csupermarket\u201d of our time. His shop<\/span><\/span> was also very accessible to us because of its location. From our Settlement Scheme, we approached town on the only major \u201chighway\u201d that ran in front of the Catholic Church and past the Slaughterhouse. We passed St. Joseph Primary School to our right, and about a hundred meters to our left was Kamau\u2019s shop. <\/span><\/span>Our mother knew we could find everything we needed in that one shop without <\/span><\/span>having to <\/span><\/span>ventur<\/span><\/span>e<\/span><\/span> further into town. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Word also had it that Kamau owned, <\/span><\/span>or co-owned<\/span><\/span> the Agip Petrol Station <\/span><\/span>on the Nairobi Nyahururu Highway, earn<\/span><\/span>ing hi<\/span><\/span>m the<\/span><\/span> name Kamau wa Agip. I am not sure if he actually owned the Petrol Station or was a partner with some other people, <\/span><\/span>b<\/span><\/span>ut everybody called him Kamau wa Agip and so did we.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Kamau was also a proud single father raising his only child, a daughter named Wamaitha. She was recognizable anywhere in OlKalou town, she was like everybody’s child.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
