{"id":1216,"date":"2019-05-19T16:56:00","date_gmt":"2019-05-19T16:56:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/nyandarua.com\/home\/?p=1216"},"modified":"2019-07-29T21:14:07","modified_gmt":"2019-07-29T21:14:07","slug":"the-hero-sheep-shearers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nyandarua.com\/home\/the-hero-sheep-shearers\/","title":{"rendered":"The Hero Sheep Shearers"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"wp-block pg-opt box-content\">\n<p class=\"western\" align=\"justify\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">The Shearers worked all day long, for a week or two until all the sheep of our Settlement Scheme had had their annual haircut. <\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">Like <\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">I <\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">mentioned earlier, these young men had amazing skill and speed, they sheared one sheep in a matter of minutes without ever clipping the sheep\u2019s skin. You never saw a sheep bleeding from an injury caused by the shearers. That is how skillful they were. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"western\" align=\"justify\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">They also had <\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">u<\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">n-explainable stamina. Consider this for a moment: The Shearer<\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">s<\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\"> had to hold down each animal <\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">with <\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">their<\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\"> leg and one arm while the other arm was <\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">shear<\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">ing off the thick matted wool <\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">at lightening speed<\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">. <\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">The animals were <\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">struggling to get away <\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">the whole time, <\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">bleating in the Shearers\u2019 face<\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">s and <\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">deafening <\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">their <\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">ears in the process. <\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">They also had to flip the animals to g<\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">ain<\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\"> access to <\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">the <\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">sh<\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">eep\u2019s <\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\"> back. <\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">They did that all day long for a whole week or two non stop. My entire body aches just thinking about it. But not these young men. They came, they did their perfect job and w<\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">hen they finished, they packed up and left, to come back the next year. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"western\" lang=\"en\" align=\"justify\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">I often wonder about those hardworking young men. Where did they come from? Who taught them their craft? What did they do the rest of the year? It warms my heart when I think of such young talent whose services were so vital to the growth and development of Nyandarua. They may not own huge chunks of land like the landowners they served so diligently, but the advancement of Nyandarua could not have happened without their valuable contribution.
