Around 6 am two of my brothers embarked on the trip to the collection center, a chore that they did on a rotational basis so that everybody had their turn to deliver milk. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

They loaded the two milk cans on a wheelbarrow, secured them with ropes so they didn’t topple over in the uneven terrain they traveled. They tied an extra rope at the front part of the wheelbarrow so that one person pulled the rope from the front while the other one pushed the wheelbarrow from the back. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The milk collection center was about one kilometer from our home. That one kilometer was tough because of thick sticky mud that heavily coated the wheel of the wheelbarrow to a point where it stopped rolling. The boys stopped and used sticks to scrap the mud off the wheel. They repeated the process as often as was necessary. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

They made those stops being mindful to reach the collection center before the delivery truck did. They knew the truck would never wait for them or anyone else because it ran a very tight schedule in order to reach Nyahururu before 9am otherwise their milk will be rejected.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
