There is one thing that stands out about the farmers in my Settlement Scheme. You could not easily notice the difference in their economic status. It is now that I realize there were some families that were wealthy while their immediate neighbors were dirt poor. But we did not know it back then.
The Pioneer Parents lived simple lives focusing on developing their land, whatever the acreage. Some had hundreds of acres, others had a hundred, others fifty and others even smaller than that. Everybody worked their land with the help of their children or workers and day laborers if they could afford them.
Everybody worked hard to build the local school where their children could get an education. With that picture in mind, nobody looked excessive in anything they did.
